No matter where you're at with your trauma, we can work together to create a plan to reach your recovery goals.
In order to discover where you want to be, we need to do a little work on where you are now. That's why I call this phase our "exploration." As we begin to explore who you want to be, we want to honor and be kind to the present you. That’s why the first few sessions help me get to know you better and how I can best support you.
Once we're clear on where and who you want to be, we'll begin to do work around how we'll get there. This is a completely collaborative process, but it's intense! We'll dig deep to establish the current obstacles keeping you from your goals and what steps might be necessary to achieve them.
3. Action Plan
Everyone loves a good action plan, right? Once we've established your goals, obstacles, and roadmap on reaching them, we'll begin the execution process. This is hard work, but I have every faith that with our time together, you'll get to where you want to be.
What does a typical session look like? . . .
It varies! Honestly, it really depends on where you're at in your trauma recovery, what goals you have in mind and how much work we can get done in our time together. I will say that the first few sessions are much more routine as we get to know each other. There are some important questions I have to ask you legally to ensure your safety, so you can expect that! But mostly, I will ask lots of questions to try and understand exactly where you've been, where you're at and where you'd like to be. But please know that we work at your pace.
How are sessions conducted? . . .
If you've chosen 1-1 coaching, then those sessions are typically held over a video software program called Zoom. It's a very easy to use software and I will provide you with a special link that will be reserved just for you. The link will stay the same (usually) throughout the entirety of our sessions. I encourage you to watch this short video that explains how to get into a Zoom meeting. If you have any questions though, I'm here to help! Zoom also has fantastic customer support.
If you've chosen Journaling Coaching Sessions then we will work out a submission schedule that fits our needs. (A common schedule that seems to work well is the once a week "deadline" system treated as an "appointment" or "session." It allows for consistency and routine and helps prepare you to take on any self-awareness topic to the page!)
Why do I have to fill out so many forms? . . .
Great question! The first couple forms that you'll fill out are mandated by the International Association of Trauma Recovery Coaches (IAOTRC) and ensure that you're in a safe state-of-mind for us to work together. Forms like the Safety Risk Assessment and Daily Living Activites are required every couple of months to make sure we're still on the same page. The other forms are more of a guide for us during our sessions. Sometimes, it's hard to talk about the past and our trauma. These worksheets give us a safe space to get some basics down and they will help lead our conversations throughout our sessions. If you're uncomfortable with answering any of the questions at any time, please let me know and we'll work on that together.
Do you offer any other payment options? . . .
Depending on circumstances, yes. I try to work with at least one pro bono client a quarter. I also offer a "pay what you can" option for those who are in dire financial support.
